Andrea Rivera is a Legislative Assistant at the California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC). Andrea is responsible for legislative and budget bill tracking, policy research, and coordinating the work of the Policy Program among other things. She plays an integral role in supporting CIPCs government affairs policy and advocacy work in Sacramento.
A Bay Area native, Andrea’s commitment to serving under-served communities comes from her passion for community service and community development. Growing up she was always very involved in her community and that pushed her to pursue a career in public service. After earning her Bachelor’s in Political Science and Mexican-American Studies, from San Jose State University, she moved to the state’s capital to pursue her dream of creating positive political change.
Andrea comes from an education policy and community organizing background. Outside of CIPC, Andrea is very involved in the Sacramento community and you can find her organizing Latino outreach efforts, volunteering with student groups, and working with the City of Sacramento to develop equitable opportunities for Sacramento residents. Andrea also serves as a Board Member for the Oak Park Neighborhood Association and We Leverage, Inc. and is a Fellow at the Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute. In her spare time, Andrea enjoys gardening, hiking with friends, watching movies, petting cute dogs, and kickboxing.
