Andrea Amavisca

Andrea Amavisca is the Senior Legislative Advocate at the California Immigrant Policy Center. She is responsible for monitoring and advocating for a wide range of immigrant-related policies, providing immigrant communities with the skills to advocate for legislation in Sacramento, and making policy recommendations that advance CIPC’s mission.

Andrea brings three and a half years of legislative experience to CIPC. Most recently, Andrea was a legislative aide to State Senator Dave Cortese, representing the 15 th Senate District. During her time in the state legislature, she led legislative efforts focused on economic justice,
sentencing reform, and child welfare. Prior to working in the state legislature, she worked as a legal assistant at an immigration law firm where she supported clients seeking immigration relief through the form of a provisional unlawful presence waiver, VAWA, or U Visa.

Raised by immigrant parents in the border community of the Imperial Valley, Andrea experienced from an early age the stark disparities in access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities that immigrant communities often face. She seeks to advocate for immigrant communities like the one she comes from and equip them with the tools to create transformative, intersectional change. Andrea holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. In her free time, Andrea enjoys exploring new restaurants, birdwatching, and binge watching drama TV shows.
