Adel Syed

Dr. Adel Syed serves as President and CEO for UMMA Community Clinic, a federally qualified community health center, in South Central Los Angeles providing comprehensive primary care, behavioral health, and dental care at five clinical locations. He holds a master’s in public policy and administration from Northwestern University and a doctorate in organizational leadership from the University of La Verne. His research interests are focused on leadership development in the health center and non-profit sectors. He is a fellow of the University of California San Francisco and the Blue Shield of California Foundation’s Clinic Leadership Institute, a 2013 Rockwood Leadership Institute fellow, and a 2011 New Leaders Council fellow. In his over a decade of service at UMMA Clinic, he has provided vital leadership for UMMA’s development, outreach, and operations scaling up to a full-time staff of over 110 employees. His work focuses on the intersection of integrated health equity, community organizing, and social causes of health. He also currently serves on the boards of directors of the California Primary Care Association, the Initiative on Islam and Medicine, Southside Coalition of Community Health Centers, and American Muslim Health Professionals
