AJ Joven

AJ Joven is CIPC’s Movement Building Specialist. In this role, he seeks to be a bridge between the voices of the community and the policy that CIPC champions, anchoring us in accountability to and solidarity with the people we serve. AJ brings with him experience in both the public and non-profit sectors, having overseen various complex projects that involve various stakeholders.

An immigrant from the Philippines, AJ grew up in South Los Angeles. And while his heart still holds a soft spot for his old neighborhood, he has put down roots in the Inland Empire: building community in places and among people that evoke his childhood home. Working to build a more equitable and inclusive space for the people in his neighborhood to thrive is central to how he sees his work.

AJ is also a published writer, with his essays having featured in publications such as Catapult, The Rumpus and The Liverpool Offside, and his poetry in Ghost Heart, Dryland ,and Marias at Sampaguitas. He has an amazing wife, inspiring daughter, and is obsessed with Liverpool Football Club.
