Ed Sifuentes

Edward Sifuentes is the Communications Director at the California Immigrant Policy Center. Before joining CIPC, he worked as the Deputy Communications Director at the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties, where he played a vital role in raising public awareness of unjust, inhumane U.S. policies and practices affecting people seeking asylum and immigrants.

As a veteran journalist with more than15 years of newspaper experience, he covered immigration, politics and breaking news at the San Diego Union-Tribune and other news organizations in Southern California and Florida.

After witnessing in the newsroom the devastating 2016 election of Donald Trump, Edward decided to join the fight against the Trump administration’s racist, bigoted and anti-immigrant policies as a fierce advocate for civil rights and civil liberties.

In the following years, Edward had a leadership role in implementing multiple communications initiatives, including managing various storytelling projects; authorship of a regular column for local news outlets; an artivism project in collaboration with local artists; and managing media relations.

His experience as an award-winning journalist, deep knowledge of the state’s media landscape and excellent media relations skills has resulted in greater, more favorable press coverage and improved public perception of immigrants’ rights issues.

A Southern California native, Edward is a graduate of San Diego State University with a bachelors’ degree in journalism and a minor in Latin American studies. He enjoys photography, music concerts and traveling.
