Los Angeles (Feb. 25, 2026) — The California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) issued the following statement condemning President Trump’s anti-immigrant comments during his State of the Union address.
Masih Fouladi, CIPC Executive Director: “Contrary to President Trump’s despicable comments last night, immigrant communities help keep the nation strong and our communities safe by enriching our culture and contributing daily to the wellbeing of our economy.
“Instead of offering bipartisan solutions to the problems that families across the country face, the president chose to cruelly exploit people’s pain and suffering for shameless political gain — all to mask and divert people’s attention away from the failures of his administration and the real danger of his xenophobic agenda. As the president cuts billions of dollars for programs that help struggling families, his administration is providing tax cuts to billionaires and increasing funding for violent, indiscriminate ICE raids in our communities.
“Immigrant communities across the country are living in fear — afraid to go to work, to take their children to school or seek medical care. People are being racially profiled and kidnapped off the street, torn from their families and thrown in inhumane, often deadly private for-profit detention facilities.
“Despite Trump’s hateful rhetoric, we will continue to fight and we will not give in. As Sen. Alex Padilla said in his Spanish State of the Union response: ‘solo el pueblo salva el pueblo’ (only the people can save the people). We know what we must do. We will continue to raise our voice against injustice, we will protect our communities, we will defend our rights and we will vote for change in November.”
