Los Angeles (Nov. 6, 2024) – The California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) issued the following statement on the reelection of former President Trump.
“Throughout our nation’s history, immigrants have come from all over the world with dreams of a better life. In making those dreams a reality, immigrants have built this country and strengthened our democracy,” said Masih Fouladi, executive director of CIPC. “We are deeply disappointed in the fact that, after leading one of the most xenophobic and anti-immigrant campaigns in recent memory, former President Trump is headed for reelection.
“As difficult as this moment may be for many in our community to absorb, we must remember that we have been here before. Together, we resisted Trump’s worst impulses and rejected his most devastating policies. This is the time for us to organize and build power. This is the time to reach out to community-based organizations and lend your strength to our movement.
“CIPC and our partners throughout California and throughout the country will do everything in our power to prevent harm to immigrant communities. We will inform our audiences, organize our communities and call on our elected representatives at every level of government to stand with us in opposing Trump’s racist and anti-immigrant agenda.
“During the last Trump administration, our state and local leaders led with our values and protected immigrants by advocating against bans and walls that sought to separate us. They acknowledged the contributions immigrants continue to make to our labor force and small businesses that fuel the world’s fifth largest economy, and enrich the cultural and sports industries that make our state one of the most vibrant in the country. Today, we call again on our state leaders to reject Trump’s calls for mass deportations and family separations by providing the leadership and resources needed to ensure that our communities are protected. In doing that, California can again be a beacon of hope for our country.”
